This mower runs great, but I need to start it with starting fluid because the pull start has resistance and I can get it cranking fast enough. Its not the recoil starter, I just replaced it, Its almost like I’m pulling against hydraulic pressure. Any ideas?

Fuel or oil leaking into the cylinder... Possibly check for a sticking float. Also check the compression release on the cam.
