Do you ever get the feeling

People are intentionally trying to get as close as possible to you while youre mowing or trimming and they are driving?

And it seems to be getting worse and worse. We do about a dozen commercial properties and HOAs on fairly busy streets. Lots of walking and mowing on the road verge. I have seen people on a 4 lane road actually get over into the right lane before they get to us. People driving by doing 15-20 over. People who stay in the right line when the left one is completely empty.

Im sure its because Im aware of it but when I see workers in that area I try and get over or at bare min. slow down. It seems these days people are actually trying to kill me. My middle finger has been getting quite a workout the last month.

Intentionally? Nah, they don’t even see you past their phone. You better train your employees to do some heads up trimming.

:ROFLMAO:

The guys are good about watching out. But one wrong misstep in a hole or one bad bounce on a mower and they fall off the curb and that car that refused to get over or slow down kills them.
There hands follow there eyes. If there looking at your truck or trailer or mower (sometimes moving objects makes eyes focus on it rather then road) they will start to drift towards your work zone. Also, flashing, strobing lights have the moth affect.

Yep that's exactly it. Most people are doing it unintentionally and don't even realize it. I recommend traffic cones. The middle finger is never the solution for anything.

Hard to run traffic cones up 1/4 mile road and completely shut the whole lane down.

Here is a new phenomena ive witnessed 3 times lately. Car going down the street just stops....and shes on the cell phone. Not at a stop sign or waiting for a light....just anywhere.
Like a dead stop....for minutes.

Ive been hit by 2 cars. Neither while mowing....once when working construction. And once when I was on my mountain bike. When I got hit on the mountain bike i could see her on the phone texting as she drive off....she never even felt it. THAT MIRROR WILL NEVER BE THE SAME THOUGH!!!🤬

It's because drivers have gotten worse and generally suck. They likely don't realize you're there because they aren't paying attention. Or they are so self absorbed they have no regard for anyone around them.

My first year I had a place with a lawn that was right along a busy secondary roadway.
I would put a yellow vest on to trim along the road, and I felt like I was attracting the cars TO me. I mean, I WATCHED them drift over towards the side of the road where I was at.

Yeah, I also think it's done subconsciously.

And there's something else I noticed that's the complete opposite - cars drifting over close to parked cars along the right side of a one way street.
I had my mirror clipped as I sat there. No damage, but I watched in the side mirror as 95% of the cars coming up the street would drift over towards where I was parked.
After a few weeks of observing this, I figured it out - they were avoiding a mature TREE that is right up against the curb on the opposite side of the street!

Once I saw it, I would watch from different parking spots each time I mowed. Yup - almost every car driving up that street would move to the right as they passed that tree. I guess it COULD jump out if they aren't careful. Ugh.

Ive seen this. In fact I saw it yesterday. Guy was pulled over and as I was going by I asked if he was ok. He just looked at me and said "im lost"

I said "pull the F off the road and into a parking lot then dummy"

Well it finally happened.
I was trimming about. 1/4 mile curb and i was about 2 feet into the street. I looked up and a young girl was heading right at me with her head down. I jumped and swung my trimmer around and it smacked right into the car behind the passenger door. Left a giant dent and heard a big boom.

she just kept driving like nothing had happened. The guy who was mowing said it looked like someone hit it with a baseball bat 😂

I'm a mountain biker and you're taught to steer with your eyes i.e. look at where you want to go and the you'll naturally tend to go that direction...the visible yellow vest probably was making them drift towards you :D

I think that's what happened to these guys...

Ooohhh! I forgot which thread I had posted in about the "tree" and here it is again!

I took this pic last week to post and forgot about it.
That tree on the left (actually the street is lined with similar trees) is what I was talking about!
People drift to the right going up this hill to avoid the tree. (one way street)

If I could post video, you would shake your head in disbelief as car after car moves over to the right as they pass it by, and then back to the left again.

People are self absorbed morons with zero clue to their surroundings.

Just watch the videos of multicar pileups in the winter. Zero regard for conditions. Just flying along in basically zero visibility.

Or the ones plowing into emergency vehicles that have slowed down little or not at all.

Just read your local news paper or police logs. Some one is always veering off the road.
