Don't ask a Red Neck what kind of fuel mileage they are getting on their Pickem Up Truck. You will only get a very Blank look and a DUH response. Ask a compact owner and you get an answer to the hundreds of a mile.

So the Question is WHAT KIND OF MPG DO YOU GET and ON WHAT ENGINE.

Mine are.

2.5 Ranger gets 27 MPG

300 6 F 250 gets 14 MPG

Isuzu NPR 135 hp gets 12 MPG Diesel


I am looking to buy an other truck and put a 200 gallon Skid Sprayer in it. I believe the 4.3 V6 Chev gets the best gas mileage, But would like some input from those smart enough to operate a calculator and figure costs of driving. I want to replace the F 250 with a better mileage Truck. BTW I plan to buy used so I can pay cash. There are a few 3/4 ton 4.3 made but they are hard to find used because the run great and cheap. I will take a 1/2 ton.

Please only reply about a truck you own or have owned.

ric if you get a 1/2 ton truck let me know if you need the rear springs beefed up..i can do that at the shop for you

From the Feed Back so far I might as well stay with my F 250 which already is set up including F 450 Leaf Springs. I could use some Shocks. about 2000-2001 I had a 351 F 250 go in the shop for a head job. A kid working for me offered to pull my 20 ft Haulmark. Not only did his 4.3 pull it better with a 410 but I paid for all his gas on and off the job. As a kid he cruised all night long Between Naples and Sarasota. My gas bill was still less than the 351.

The F 250 has seen better days as a 1994 model. I bought it brand new and after 14 years and 200K It doesn't owe me any thing. But with a car, a Motorcycle and 3 trucks I do have a slight parking problem. The F 250 is more a back unit that I could do without. But I would like to replace it with something newer but used so I can pay cash and not feel the cost bite of a a brand new model.

I would buy something like 50 studebaker or redone 5 window chev with a straight six . 3/4 ton . HELL WITH GAS MILEAGE . Good advertisement and coversation piece .Its kind nice to chew the fat and not have BMs ,hemroids and cost of prescriptions come up . mabe a c1500W/T,a.k.a. heavy half work truckw/ 4.3 L. A big chev./GMC dealer with fleet sales can probly round up one for you .

Not a bad idea and you could even put an old body on a modern frame to have reliability. But this is a back up truck and I really don't want to put that kind of money in it. I am feeling the economic crunch like everyone else. While I am actually making a little more on the bottom line right now I am running scared of the future. Therefore I don't want to spend a great deal of money. One problem with a one off design or older truck is getting parts.

Yo Diesel Drivers

Don't any of you have programmable chips????????? I had a 7.3 with a Dial on the dash board that reprogrammed the Turbo for Mileage or Power. I was getting 18 MPG around town and 24 Hwy. My son won races with it but lost the long term battle when it blew up and that is why I no longer have it.

So far it looks like my old 300 6 at 14 MPG is a winner. But it is getting old and after 200K and 15 years it is time to up grade. But with my car getting 30 MPG. My Ranger getting 27MPG. and my Motorcycle getting close to 60 MPG if I ride it like an old man, The 14 MPG doesn't look good.

ric i got a banks six gun on my truck and haven't really messed with it to try and get better milage but just turn it up and hold on is the only thing i have done with it..even oin the highest setting i got 15 mpg....

had to fight with ford to get some warranty work done on my 6.0L they didn't want to warranty the truck b/c it had a programmer on it...i wasn't buying it so after 2 weeks of fighting they fixed it and had to pay for the rental truck also dumb ass's...they have to prove to you that your programmer is what caused there part to fail and they couldn't so they had to fix it....

Wished I could tell you more about the Chip and All the other stuff. But it was more my Kid's Truck and just owned by the business. It was used to make plant runs to Homestead and back, pulling very heavy loads. Sod isn't light either etc. But My kid raced it and he had more goodies than I knew about on the truck. Being a numbers guys I automatically run numbers without thinking. I just know the Mileage was great for the work done.

Now I am either hearing tall tails or Our Flat land at sea level gives better mileage. Most people I know with chip on the 7.3 are claiming the same MPG or better Than I got. 4.3 V 6 I am hearing up to 30 mpg in a Blazer. Now having Taught Material Calculation (math) at a College right there by you, I know most people don't have the first clue of how the move decimal points let alone add.
