Another thing you gotta add into the mix is the increase in part-time people. Guys looking to pick up 10-15 accounts to help with the bills, that's probably what I've noticed more than anything.
I don't understand people who charge $15-20? When I started I wanted to charge people as much as possible. Reasonably priced I mean, these people have absolutely no concept of business. They can have the pita clients with weedy yards that we wouldn't make any money on anyway. There is a place for everyone, and reasonable, professional businesses will have higher end clients that understand business and the things that we do to promote ourselves as being professional.

its just the way of the world these day . heck even moving company have the guy with truck that will move u half the price of the big guy , and then u got all the food truck/trailer guys and the list goes on .its in all the industries not just grass cutting/landscaping
Some of the low ballers use the low price to upsell. Kinda like these people that chase $19.99 cupons for oil changes on their autos, and then walk out with a $300 bill.
They do this then wonder why they are loosing the commercial cutter's business!!
Local dealers around here are a joke. I could start my own thread about some of the most ignorant things I've seen them do.
Good for them. Times are tough. I applaud their work ethic. There's more than enough work for everybody.
wasn't meant as a rant, just a comment. I'm just old enough to remember when things were a little different, and the streets weren't full of people of every description with a mowing apparatus of some kind. It is what it is. I drop the gate and look down the street and 6 other guys are doing the same thing. It is what it is.
Seventy percent of businesses fail within two years.
Even if a business makes just enough money to cover costs but not enough to pay the owner a salary. Two years of not drawing a salary. Not many people have the savings to make it through one year without a salary.
Most businesses take three years to take off because they need that much time to have obtained the holy trinity of business where money for expenses, growth, and, income have been reached.
Gets old and tired fast working and not getting anything from it.
