I used to stay off the lawn but it takes way too long. Just cut across the grass. I figure if they are going to hire me they won't mind me taking 10 steps across the yard to put out my flyer. If they are the type to get upset about it and yell at you I don't want them as a customer anyway.

I got my A$$ chewed one day when I was younger helping someone pass out door hangers for walking across someones lawn.....won't do that again!! Its kind of rude if you think about it....and technically isn't it tresspassing? I mean...if you were supposed to walk across their lawn....wouldnt' the SIDEWALK go that way? :walking:

I used to always take the long route for a more professional appearance. and I used to knock and try and do as much on saturdays when people are home and make face to face contact. Instead I go during the week when 95% of the people are working, cut through the lawn, and just rubber band the flyer with a friend letter and my card to the door handle and go to the next. The very few people that are home are old or dont know I put a flyer on the door. Hopefully people will go to our website and see my smiling face under meet our team and that justifies.

I think it's giving the wrong first impression and kind of presumptuous to walk across people's lawns unless it's your neighborhood and people who know you. I wouldn't do it, but then again I wouldn't even come to someone's house unannonced to pedal my services. But hey, the mailman does it in the next town over from me where the mail is delivered on foot to some areas.

From research mail inserts are good, but generally get overlooked. People get their mail after a long day at work and it gets thrown somewhere. When you come home to find something at your door it catches you off guard, you dont know if it is a subpoena or what and you take the time to look at it. Mail inserts your competing with every other mail insert to catch the persons attention. Plus the cost to go door to door in labor is 25% on average of what it costs in postage.

I would never walk through the lawn, it doesn't give a very "professional" appearance. Yes, it takes longer to walk down the driveway and to the next house via the sidewalk or road...take the extra time and don't cut through the lawns.

When I started out I stayed off the grass. Now im all over that Shi*. It is passing flyers, kind of a sucky job sure you might get *****ed at now and then but it comes with the territory. The people that dont want you on their grass probably dont want you at their door either no matter how you got their on the grass or on the sidewalk. Im pretty sure grass was made to walk on ( not 100% ) but pretty sure.

I have ussally stuck to the sidewalks. A few times on a extra long sidewalk or something I may just cut across but not as a rule.

It's their property and it just looks more professional sticking to the walks.

Just my $0.02

IMO, turf is not made to walk on. That's what a concerete walkway is for. I woirk very hard to maintain it and do not appreciate you walking across it due to laziness.
:laugh::laugh:Are you for real man.....How do you mow your lawn then? You use a 21" cause of the weight? No cook outs at your house...Kids must be locked up in the house cause daddy will go ballistic if we touch the grass.....OMG...

Its not like he is walking across it 10 times a day every day, that I could understand..
