I've pulled 5 tons. 14k total. With my 04 2500 hd reg cab as long as the weight is distributed and trailer brakes are on full power it's ok for back rds. I don't recommend doing it but u can if u had to!

heres the info on the trailer.

2008 dump trailer 12,000lb dump trailer equiptment doors with tie downs, duel doors barn doors, dump gate, new tires, twin hydraulic cylinders.

like i said, he told me he repaced the tires with what were the originals except instead of 10 ply he went to 12 ply. i asked if when loaded if the tires ever touched and thats when i was told is had 3+ inches between them and they never touch. said its a heavy duty trailer and attributed the big tires go along with the fact its heavy duty with 8 lugs rims. I'll know monday when i go to see it. im bringing cash so i hope its all he said it is. has bearing buddies, greasable fittings on everything, crank out tarp kit, adjustable height on coupler up front, tie down rings on it etc.. very good shape ive been told. The brand is Dump and go.

The 12k heavy duties are pretty heavy...probably 2 tons or so empty. I'd feel it was a bit overmatched for my truck...in fact it would be over my tow capacity at 12k... but you've got a bit more horse power and the Allison.

How did you get a allison with the 6.0. I thought you had to get the Dmax to get one of those.

You should be fine with 8-10 yards of mulch in there no problem. I have a 6x10 10k brimar that I pull with my 2500 6.0. The heaviest thing I have had in it was 3.5 yards of topsoil. I put it all over the axles and only went 20 miles on flat ground so it wasnt a problem. I had one really heavy wet load in the leaf box (appox 14 yards) that felt heavier but I think that it was just not as balanced. I have also hauled 5 yards of compost and 2 yards of stone without any problems. If you haul something heavy like topsoil or stone and put it over the axles, you shouldnt have any problems. I think a 6 or 7x12 trailer is the perfect size. Mine is good but a bit small to haul a machine and the 12' trailers seem to turn backing up a bit better.

i made a mistake with saying it has the allison. i was under the impression all 6 speeds were allison. after some reading i think i have the 6L80 hydramatic 6 speed trans and that the duramax is the only one with the allison. funny i just investigate this now.

the trucks tow rating is 10,700lbs. so if the trailer is 4000 lbs i can still town 6000lbs of mulch in it correct? not sure what mulch weighs exactly but id guess i could tow my desired 8 yards then and still be ok?

Probably in the range of 600 to 800 pounds per yard on the mulch, depending on the mulch and moisture level.

I have two 6.0L w/ 6 speeds and I wouldn t hesitate to pull that trailer. I will say that the newer GM 3/4 tons seem lighter, but since one of mine is 3500HD with duallys I do most of my towing with that.

My 2007 has the 6L90 6 speed automatic with grade braking and manual selection. Kick ass tranny for towing.
