I think listening to music is a mistake!:nono: There is no way you can hear the subtle noises a mower makes before something breaks or if someone is trying to yell to you or get your attention.

Well I have an ipod and man standing blowing leaves for 6 hours in the fall it was great.

Take some stihl ear muffs and put your ear buds inside them behind the foam. Works great for me and cancels out the mowers and blowers. But yes wear hearing protection, and glasses while were at it.

Do noise cancelling headphones work as well as good hearing protecting earmuffs? I'd love to get a pair because I can't stand wearing the earbuds under the muffs, but I can't stand going tuneless even more.

What I thought about doing was getting a set of Peltors to use with my Belkin FM transmitter that puts the iPod on FM 88.5. That way I have no wires to contend with, just keep the iPod in the pocket.

Good noise cancellors should work as well as buds-under-muffs. Can't say for sure because I've never done the latter. But, keep the reciept and if you don't like them... take them back... Capitalism, baby.

I use the FM transmitter currently and it works great! 2 things to remember. Make sure your Peltors or whatever radio you use can accurately dial in on a specific channel and keep extra batteries for the transmitter in your truck.

Your right about getting your attention, but I hear the mower better with the ipod on, it takes away the muffler noise, and I can hear a strange noise sooner.

On another note, I just got a ipod nano, and its so much smaller and lighter than the regular ipod. Makes the old one seem like an old dinasour. And being the wonderful boss that I am, I gave my ipod to my employee.

my trucks have xm radios why not guys spend a lot of time in them and it keeps them happy and cost me very little but they leave the radio on in the truck and tune their worktunes to 88.1 and listen to xm while working but it cuts out when you go further than about 200'-250' from truck

You hit the nail on the head there. I'm amazed at the amount of people who can't do anything without a TV or a radio on. It's kinda like a form of bi polar. They need to have something to do at all times. It's an extension of their baby blanket they had. Same goes for cell phones. I never realized so many folks need to talk all day on a phone and get no work done. I hate it when you walk over to an employee and they say"WHAT" everytime the need to take the headphones off or shut the sound off. :)
