The ring wore completely off. Many years on this unit. Lucky I bought a siezed up unit for $50 so I got parts.

Let me guess. No guard and 3ft of line paid out it's entire life?

No guard but not 3ft. but did have torque gearbox. First time I seen one wear thru. BTW did wear thru muffler and replaced it a month ago.

It's the metal on metal clutch shoes. What I have been doing is when I have to replace a clutch cup, I'll order a set of the old style shoes with the coating on them.
The other problem with these metal on metal shoes is that they generate a lot of heat, frying the bearing and even melting the fan case.

Echo has fiction pads .......clutch pads not worn down. I probably replaced those 3 times in life of this unit.
