I would guess the blade bolts are too tight.....5 of them or so. Kinda complicated to describe how to adjust them. Back off the locking nut a little and then open up the clearance then tightened the nut back.
the blade stoped moving when i was trimming. thanks for the imput. it has been over a year that i looked at it but i will dig it out and see if i kan move the blade.

With out alittle more info, my best guess would be that they need to be oiled. Soak them in WD40 or some PB Blaster. If that fails, there should be some washers on the blade bolts on the underside of the blades, you should be able to rotate the washers. If you can not move the washers, then I would loosen the blade bolts just a hair so that the washers can rotate.
If that fails, then the problem is likely in the gear case. Hedge trimmer blades should be oiled at lease every hour of use.

That is going to be your route to getting them going again.

The lock nut is only a locking device, the bolt threads into the bar.
Loosen the lock nuts, loosen the bolts until you can move the washers with your finger, tighten the lock nuts while holding the bolts from rotating (even a 1/4 turn can mess you up. Once you figure it all out, you can have some tension on the washer, it helps make clean cuts on fine shrubs.
More than likely, just one of the bolts has tightened itself.

As for the oil; PB for penetrating, Fluid Film for regular clipper maintenance.

yeah have had echo hedge trimmers do that, i took off the gear box cover and loosened the blade bolts .; then i checked movement in the gears and all. took the gears out, cleaned and put back. i then but the cover back on and greased the gear box well. stared them up and they moved again, so i dont know wah i did. but then i tightened the blade bolts a little at at time till jsut the right tension. i started them up in between each tightening to make sure the blades still rotated. been working great since. hope this helps,

If it freeze right in the middle of your trimming, I would first check the dirt between the blades. My HC151 got so much dirt cake up in between the blades even using WD40 would not dissolve them. I have to take out the 5 nuts on the blade, use a flat metal tool to scrape the stuff off on both side of the blade. Put the bolt back and adjust according to instruction and try again. I think the new ones comes with grease in between the blades, they collect dirt and cake up, then dry up. Use WD-40 to lube the blades often. The way to adjust is to tighten the bolt very lightly, back off 1/3 to 1/2 turn, hold the bolt in place with a ranch, put on the locking nut from the other side and lock tight to hold the loose bolt. Do this on all 5 bolts. Read the manuel. If you don't have the manuel, download from Echo site. They recomend 1/2 turn, I tried 1/3 and work well.

My HC151 work.......barely ok, it never cut that good. I check everything including the timing of the blades and everything, it just not very good. I am planning to buy a new one soon.

I don't understand your cutting problem I seen ours cut wire .08" in dia. And I don't see why you get dirt into the unit to the pont it don't work. We run 5 of these at pretty heavy use ...but I do adjust the bolts to .002" and I sharpen the blades 4 times a year. WD-40 isn't much of a lube....try something like hdro oil something that stick in place.

Echo hc2020 can't get a completely apart. Can't find nothing wrong with my blades or the clutch or the roach history inside where the connects to and I'm still not getting nothing. All the bolts are loose on the blade but nothing's happening. I think it's a clutch connects to the cover inside. I took that all out. Bearings are fine
