Is there a $1000 noticeable difference as far as torque (load, no load) or hp,
durability and longevity between a 23 hp vanguard and kawasaki?

    This great debate continues.

I have run B&S, Kohler, and Kawasaki. Now I only buy Kawasaki. It all comes down to who has done you right in the past. HP and torque are indeed important but making sure I have zero breakdowns every single day is the biggest factor in my engine selection.

No manufacturer can give you a perfect engine every single time but Kawasaki has been the closest by far for me. :)

Kawasaki engines are great engines and have very good Hp to Torque ratio. Briggs Vanguard engine is also a very strong engine and one of the best engines they have ever made. Both engines will give you reliable service for years to come. I have used equipment with both engines for years without any trouble but in my experience the Kawasaki has more Torque than the Briggs but both are great engines.
