My in-laws have an established pest control company in the area and approached me about starting up a lawn care division. I've been around the business for several years and know the work well since my dad has been in it for years. What do you think would be the best way to establish a customer base up front to get the ball rolling? I thought of newsletters announcing the company was expanding, and things of that nature. Let me know if you have any good ideas.

If your relatives are willing to promote your lawn mowing with a letter to their existing customer, you may be off to a roaring start. This is called Vertical Marketing. The reason they want you to mow is to establish a one stop shopping for their marketing approach. The Fact is, if none right both services will increase business for each other.
