I have a customer that asked me to extend her 10'x10' concrete patio. I suggested that she add 3' on all three sides. I personally do not like the look of concrete mixed with other material but maybe someone could suggest a material that would be suitable for this project. This will be my first job of this type so any advise would be appreciated. What is going to make the best base so the material does not settle below the level of the existing patio? Thanks for any input.

It will need to be something very stable (patio furniture will be placed on it). I was thinking of a 3" base of crushed concrete, 3" of concrete sand then 2" flagstone. Then fill joints with 3/8" pea gravel. Will this be stable with the base I want to use and will I need something on the outside of the flagstones to keep them in place?
