    just bought a nice 99 f150 4x4..28,000 miles

small v8...and I dont jump on the gas orbrakes and never run above 65mph.

when I check the gas mileage, I'm getting like 10.5????

I know these fords like to drink gas....but this is the mileage I'm getting without even pulling the trailer!! I dont even want to check it when I'm trailering...could have a heartattack ..

Dealar tells me I should be getting easily 15mpg around town and more on the highway....truck runs great, no missing or tune up problems. Maybe odometer is off??
    What do you think

I think you should see 11-13,no way 15 mpg-Fords just do not get great mileage.10 is a little low,if your all stop and go,and lead foot 10 is normal.See why we buy diesels? the gas motor costs you more in the end when you tow/drive alot.

I have a 2001 Supercrew 4wd auto. It has the 5.4 but the lowest I have ever gotten was 12mpg. Average is 13. I only have 10k miles so it isnt totally broke in yet.

You didnt say if it was reg cab or ext cab. Ext cab will get a little less because of more weight.

I would consider changing plugs. Also go with synthetic fluids and may get a small increase but protection is worth it.

Ford is middle of road for mileage...chevy gets best, but dodge's generally get worse.

BOTTOM LINE...you should be getting better mileage.

Change oil if you havent already...never know when it was changed last.

(BTW...dont rule out 15+ if you are doing highway and easy on it. I took mine on a 500 trip when I only had 1500 miles. Drove 75-80mph with A/C on and mileage was 16.28mpg.)

I had a 94 F 150. Trips the best i ever saw was 13. Around town I got what you are getting. Now with a 2000 F 250 PS I can get 13 running around town pulling a trailer, and have seen 18 on the road. When fuel prices were so HIGH last summer, I was paying a lot less with diesel than what I would have been with gas burner.

I have a 99 4x4 with the 4.6. only time I got that bad of gas mileage was when a , I think a vac. line came off. The line that came off was, looking at the engine on the drivers side down by the cylinder head there was a line off, I got about 10 with it off. I put cat-back duels, and a K/N generation 2 filter kit on my truck. I get about 15-17 average. Just put 4:10's in and really did'nt hurt the mileage any. At least it does'nt downshift when a gust of wind hits me head on (LOL) Next truck will be a diesel!!

I have a 1997 f-150 club cab 4.6 liter. It gets 16 mpg highway no trailer, add trailer and it drops to 10 mpg, add spray tank with trailer it gets 8 mpg.

We also have a 2002 f-250 crew cab 4x4 it gets 12 highway 9 pulling trailer.

I have a 1998 F150 4.6 v8 that before I made a gear change I was getting 17.5 mpg in town and 23 mpg on the road. After the gear change (3.08 to 3.73) my in town mpg only went down by 1 to 16.5 mpg. On road went to 20 mpg. I also got better mileage pulling a trailer after the gear change because the motor wasn't laboring anymore.

Actually Fords get pretty good gas mileage. My chevy doesn't get nearly as good as my ford.

    When I had my 97. 4 by 2 with the 4.6 triton. 5 speed.
Without the trailer I would MAYBE do 14. Once I hooked up and depending on where I went(city/highway),I was lucky to see 8-10 per gallon.
I went to the PSD after the lease was up on the 150. What a difference! All the way around.:D
