I'm looking for a f-550 4x4 dump body. I found one that was MSRP 42000 + 10K for the 9ft dump and 4 door tool box. The 450 next to it was 40000 + 8K for the 9ft dump. First question is: What percentage should I expect to get off these with bargaining. I usually shoot for 10% and usually come close. Also this would be my first new dump purchase: should I look for a chassis, then find a dealer to put on a dump, or am I better just buying complete. I did find a few 2005 chassis's, but didn't get prices yet. All set and done I'm looking to get a 550 4x4 reg or crew cab, with 9+ft dump, and a plow, 4.88 gears, auto, and diesel. Looking to spend no more than 45 for all out the door. Thanks for any advice.

I personally wouldn't buy a 6.0 truck I would try find a good used 7.3 or go with a V-10. Also a 9' box on a F-450 or F-550 is too small minimum 11' box something you can carry a load in. The short wheelbase trucks will ride like a tank. Also the new front suspension on the coil sprung F-450 and F-550 is unproven.

I agree about the box size. Have no personal experience with the 6.0L, but have read really mixed comments. I agree that the 7.3 is a monster, as well as the precursing non turbo diesel. I had one with 250K on it. Anyways I don't need one till sept/oct, but am starting to get rolling in case I need to order what I need. I would like to start compiling a list of prices so I can decide what I really want.

You are probably better to buy a truck that has already been upfitted with a bed, If you look around alot of dealer will have cab and chassis truck sent out and have dump beds already on and ready to go. I have several 7.3 psd but have not had any experience with the 6.0. It did have some problem but I belive that that they were fixed for the most part. You should be able to find the truck you want for $45,000. I would look for a dealer that does mainly commercial trucks and you will get a better deal.
