Hi I'm brand new to this forum, so my appologies if this has already been covered in previous posts. I have a small backyard pond in which I house a few map turtles and such. The problem I am having is that the prefilter on the pump gets so quickly clogged up with pond muck (kind of a thick blackish green mud) that the pump stops working within the same day as I unclog them. Would it help if I were to install a skimmer, or do my problems run deeper than that? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

With the systems with the in pond pumps, there is seldom any type of biological filter. Installing a skimmer would be a big help as it helps generate the proper bacteria and it draws the water from the top rather than across from the bottom. Keeps your pump out of any muck and gives you chance at an ecosystem. Good luck!
