Finally found a mowing job that allows 100% mowing capacity

Every manufacturer has charts as to how many acres per hr. their machines will mow, but seldom can we as LCO's find a property that allows us to keep the machine mowing at full speed 100% of the time.

I mowed a grass airstrip yesterday - It is 3100 ft. long, and smooth. Made 5 rounds with the 9 1/2 foot mower (10 min. per round - 50 min. total) all at peddle to the metal.

Figuring a 6" overlap (being conservative, probably more like 3"), that is 18 feet per round, x 5 = 90' x 3100 =279,000 sq. ft. divided by 43,560 = 6.4 acres.

6.4 acres divided by 5 = 1.28 acres every 10 min. x 6 =7.68 acres per hr.

ill ask what did u get paid to mow that?
It is a friend of mine that owns the airport, I just wanted to see what my wide machine would do. On open properties like that I charge 20 - 25 per acre, which in this case would have been $20 per acre (smooth - no obstacles) 20 x 6.4 = $128 in 50 min. which would be $153.60 per hr.

Its always interesting to see what each machine is capable of. Our town has a big Jacobson for cutting the athletic fields, I think that machine is in the 10-13' range though. They cut a 120x60yd soccer field in about 10 minutes.

my 60" gravely has a 8.4ac/hr cut cause I cruize @ 14mph! :) Of course i've never been able to cut an airfield or something similar to see how accurate that is.

Yes, and their mower probably is in the $40,000 - $50,000 range - Mine is in the $16,000 range total for 9 1/2 ft. AND I bet they cannot mow between bushes 2 foot apart either.

How is 128 dollars the same as 153.60 per hour? You never made 153.6 per hour so please expain.
Let me see!!! - If one makes 128 dollars in 50 minutes, that would be $25.60 every 10 minutes. I believe there are 6 ten minute periods in an hr. therefore, I am going to multiply $25.60 x 6 , and bingo we have $153.60 per hr.
