I am selling my Ranger - getting a real truck. I had a 1992 Dodge Cummins - great truck. Now I'm looking for a full-size Xcab truck that is dependable and gets good mileage. I was wondering how good are the 6cyl Fords? I was thinking around a '97 model. I don't own any trailers right now but I'd like to be able to pull one if I need to. SPEAK UP F150 6cyl owners! Are they dependable? Good MPGs? Let's hear your opinions!

Stay away from the 97 98 99 V-6 Fords. I'd go with a 96 or older and the old 4.9 (300cu in) inline 6. The early 4.2's had serious issuses with leaking timing chain covers. Coolant got into the oil pan and wiped out the main and connecting rod bearings. They say the late 99 and newer with the 4.2 were redesigned to eliminate the problem. I aint so sure about that one!
