    The reason i don't have diesel as a choice is because the epa emissions have killed the newer model trucks. Also with diesel being 30-40 cents more than gas and only getting maybe 3-4mpg better then gas. It just isn't practical unless you haul heavy loads all the time. Also with a diesel the maintenance is more and major repairs can exceed the price of a new gas engine.

    My diesel averages 24 mpg empty or 18 mpg pulling a full load. My other trucks perform in the low teens when fully loaded. So let's do some simple math. A 30 gal diesel tank costing $99 to fill will carry the empty diesel at $.14 per mile while a 30 gal tank of regular gas costs $90 and will carry that empty vehicle (15 mpg empty) at a cost of $.20per mile. Assuming the 2 trucks travelled 15,000 per year the total fuel cost for diesel is $2,100 while the regular costs $3,000. The only difference in maintenance costs I can gleem from my records is that I paid $100 more for oil changes with the Diesel. Perhaps the expensive diesel fuel pump will need replacing in 5-6 years but that's okay because the diesel still saved me $800 per year.

    Do the math! Save yourself money and know trucks! Diesels still rule even though fuel costs aren't as good as they used to be.

    have you taken into consideration that when something breaks in your diesel that it's going to be double to price of gas engine parts. The new diesels are very technical and some have to have the whole cab lifted to work on engine bay. Also diesel mechanics are generally cost more per hour because of the complexity of the engines and the amount of hours. And i am looking at 08 and newer and they would all have emission EPA systems which cause worse mileage and if you do a delete mod you void your warranty. I just cant justify paying 30-40 cents a gallon more in diesel unless i really needed the towing power to haul heavy equipment at max payload all the time.

    The v10 is probably your best bet then.

    Okay so let's say it needs $4,000 of engine work because something breaks inside next year. I have saved $800 per year since 2003 so that's $5,600. Still not loosing buddy! :weightlifter:

    Isnt that $5600 the extra ya paid for the motor option? Not to mention the addedd cost of fuel.

    If you take care of your sh*t, it won't break!! I'd put my 01 LB7 up against a new 6.0 gasser any day in a usage cost comparison or a drag race!!

    I can't blame a guy for not wanting the regen crap though.

    Like I said in your other thread it will get the job done fine. It will lug going up hills, but why race up hills in a work truck.

    Here is what I pull everyday with my 5.4. 24 foot trailer, 2 ZTRs, Z-Spray, 200 gallon skid sprayer, fertilizer, and tons of handhelds, tools, ladders etc. As you can see mine has built up sides and I also carry yard waste/mulch with the trailer as needed. You will be fine with the 5.4, but if you can find a V10 I would probably go with it.

    "Big time" he says LOOOOL!! I got an '05 F-250 5.4, pulled a heavy duty trailer and 190 bobcat with NO problem. But wow maybe ZTR's weigh 20k lbs nowadays

    Did you forget that on a new truck the option for a diesel and the tranny to go with it is about 10 grand! All my mid size trucks are diesel but I will never buy a diesel pickup for work again, if the engine out pulls the capability of the truck whats the point? And Ive never had a gas V-8 fail, I have had many diesels fail though.
