I'm looking at getting a used 2010 GMC sierra 1500 ext. cab 4x4 truck. It has 26 000 km and a local dealer took it on a trade. The fellow that traded it in was an older fellow who wanted to move up to a duramax diesel for his business. Truck is in good shape. It has a 5.3 engine and 6 speed auto. What type of fuel economy does this combo get? Thanks in advance.

I have the chevy version of that truck and on the highway I get between 18-21 mpg. City driving I average 15.

Sounds about right, but towing will drag that down a lot.

Ya I never tow with it so I can't answer what it gets towing.

I have a 2008 extended cab 2 wheel drive that I pull a 16' trailer and 2 zero turns and alot of other junk. I average about 10 mpg. Thats using the onboard computer to check it with. Enough power but the suspension could use some help.

Thanks for the response. Does anyone know if the hemi in the dodge or the 4.6 engine in the ford gives better fuel economy over the 5.3 engine in the GMC?

I would think that the GM is the best bet, as far as overall package..

I'm running an '09 Ram hemi right now pulling a 12' trailer with 2 wb's and a large stander plus the extras, and get about 11-12mpg in mostly city driving. That's with the 3.21 gears though and I've heard the guys running the 3.92s pick up 1-2 mpg in the city.

They area all very close in the mpg game so find which one you like best or can get the best deal on.
