I really want to have some ornate gas light fixtures for my home, but from what I have seen they really do not put off much light. What kind of wattage equivalent do you think the gas fixtures are?... 10w? I currently have 3 25 watt bulbs in my fixtures now and have them on a astronomical switch. Just wondering if anybody has any experience with the gas lamps.

I installed two when I built my house. They don't give out much light. They are just for looks, not for lighting. I'd say 10 watts incandescent max.

From the road, all you can see if the flame. Nothing is accented and everything is dark. What I did to get around this was I installed up lighting with 20 watt bulbs to accent the stone entry.

    Mine look like this: [IMG]

So basically all gas light fixtures suck.

I wouldn't go so far as to say they suck. Gas lanterns are an exterior accessory designed the enhance a specific visual effect. If you are comparing lumen performance, then they do not compare to a halogen/ LED luminaire.

If you haven't seen the "Tempst Torch", check it out; http://www.tempesttorch.com/products.aspx

I saw a couple of these mounted on top of pillasters in a client's yard. Very cool, and put off a fair amount of light due to the flame being much higher than a typical gaslight. It also puts off a lot more heat, and burns more gas as well. You can sit and stare at the things for hours. Like a fire tornado in a jar.

That is neat, it looks like they just come in that one style fixture?
