getting customers

    I was looking for ways to help me add customers
    And you pick instead grow up or please don't comment
    Some things you suggested well I can't do at the moment but with time I could
    Gowing to put info in a bag and rock thing for mow

    Jesus... The "put a rock and flyer in a bag" thing was someone screwing with you (hopefully). You should search the forums for the topic.

    How do you know you have a market to tap? Is your market saturated with LCOs, making a new entry difficult?

    I am solo, and have been for 18, going on 19 years. I put one ad in the local paper, $18 when I started, and have never spent one more penny on direct advertising. I invest time in indirect advertising (e.g. getting to know every new resident that moves next to my customer, across the street). I spent 10 minutes this morning talking with a new owner across the street, got to know something about her and the family, but did not leave without getting a business card in her hand, and an offer to help them out when they leave for vacation. She assured me this would happen in early August.

    I have a large network of friends in other social settings -- they just call, "Can you cut my grass ....?" I've made it known to anybody about my business, and often, the first thing after meeting, "How is your business going?" Others hear the question, "I will keep you in mind when I need help." ALWAYS have a supply of business cards on your person, whether working, out at dinner, in a social setting, whenever/whereever. Selling never stops.

    Referrals and networking is the most effective. You may need a few years to make it happen, but looking for the "majic bullet" will leave you wanting. If building you own business was easy, the supply would outstrip the demand. Also, remember the turnover in this business seems to be very high. I think 8 of 10 new LCOs are gone in 2-3 years. Solo operators is quickly diminishing. The movement is fast moving to 2-3 men crews, with larger equipment, larger operations.

    Word of mouth is our best advertising / way to get customers.

    We also put an ad in the reminder which is a weekly paper that goes to EVERYONE in their own mailbox.

    Facebook / Website - we have gotten plenty of customers.

    The home show in the winter we have gained 15-20 customers per year.

    Networking is the way to go.. referrals from other maintenance companies that do the opposite what what you do help.

    Our company also sponsors many local little leagues and sports teams. They put us on their website as well as banners on the field.

    Now that's funny. I think if the op rode around a neighborhood on his bike with his lawnmower tied to the back using a megaphone to announce his presence and rates would work better than rocks in a bag

    I wouldn't do it for landscaping. But I know more than a few people that make $100k+ directly from rock bags

    Wheres newspaper?I ran adds in my newspaper every spring for a few years.Old people are 60% customer base and they read the paper!Not many going to facebook for the lawn guy,they just look in the newspaper.Not cheap,here its like $80 a month.But it pays for it self unless your running when dry.LOL

    People are trying to actually give you workable advice, but this kind of answer is...exactly like all of your others. You're giving zero (0) feedback or any detail to work with. Service area? Nah, not important. Your entire run in this thread, when one sits back and really looks at it, reads as a straight up, time-wasting troll. You're not 16. You're 30something, man. Either interact like a guy who wants to actually fix his business or go back to moping and deciding what you want to do next for work. You have some good resources in this thread and you're waiting for something to magically make you the Bill Gates of lawn mowing.
