Getting Rid of Bermuda Grass in Tall Fescue

Not even RoundUp will totally kill bermuda. Many a lawn nuked with RoundUp alone as part of a conversion to other grasses has had bermuda come back. Your best bet is repeated applications of the bermuda suppression mix and encouraging the fescue, etc to grow. Bermuda is hard if climate and maintenance practices favor it.
I am getting ready to do this in the fall this year... i have managed ( WITH THE HELP OF THIS FORUM ) get the best looking fescue lawn on my block... and I'm not even done.... one more heavy overseeding in the fall and I should be able to fill in some bare areas that were missed.. the problem is I have fescue in backyard and both sides thats THICK & DEEP GREEN and Im still waiting for my BERMUDA FRONT LAWN to green up.... this yard has to go... I have a scheduled "round up" on Aug 6th already on the schedule with a professional lawn care company...... they assure me that they dont use "commercial" round up (41% Glyphosate) that the do-it-yourselfer can buy and they have a more concentrated form (is 41% the highest you guys have ever seen)
they say they can kill the bermuda for $75 bucks & they guarantee it and they even come out twice to complete the job if need be.... I wonder if the 41% Glyphosate i can buy myself from the store myself would work and cost me LESS than $75? the yard is not that big ( 25 ft x 25 ft )
THEN AFTER the yard is "killed" on Aug 6th.... then again on the 20th......then scalp, core aerate, and SEED THE HECK OUT OF IT SEPT 3RD... then again every 3-4 weeks throughout Sept/October (for a total of about 4 seedings of that area) .....
after the fescue takes hold then I need to worry about bermuda SUPPRESSION the following spring....
has anyone ever tried this stuff... its active ingrediant says its Fenoxaprop-p-ethyl 0.41%

Glyphosate 2 Gallon roughly mid to high 40's I forget, run about $52 - Yes you could do it many times over yourself cheaper.
If the contractor says he can guarantee it and he is licensed and been in business for awhile, get him to put it in writing. Did not catch where you live, but down here I would not guarantee anyone I could keep Bermuda from coming back!

Just glyphosate? When doing bermuda kill outs prior to establishment of other grasses, I also include Fusilade and spray twice two weeks apart.

before renovating my yard last fall (tall fescue), I sprayed bermuda with Ornamec + Turflon. 2-3 weeks for total (visible) kill. Now, in a couple weeks, I'll spray Ornamec + Turflon when I start seeing the bermuda come back. Then I'll spray Acclaim (fenoxaprop-p-ethyl) + Turflon every 30 days until late-summer and repeat the whole process, if there's any bermuda left.
There's no such thing as a one-shot bermuda control. If this is what your guy is guaranteeing, then he must not really know what he's doing.

Used Turflon/Acclaim + Turflon/Fusillade with success for "control" - Acclaim is easier on the TTTF in my experience.
For your full renovation, the studies I've seen on eradicating bermuda call for 3 successive apps of glyphosphate to get 90%+ kill consistently. 1 or 2 apps tended to be widely disparate in the results.
Just be careful w/timing if you use the Turflon + Acclaim/Fusillade due to re-seeding intervals - don't know right off but I think they are a few weeks vs. 0 on gly.
Once you get a good stand of TTTF established, then you should use the aforementioned selectives to control any breakthroughs. Good luck.

By the way, the % of glyphosate in the concentrate has nothing to do with the concentration of the applied chemical. You could buy 5% or 50% gly, and the application concentration would be the same, it's just the amount of concentrate you put into the water for the final dillution. I don't think the argument of professional grade gly has any bearing on this. Also, gly won't kill the bermuda as many others have said here. It will turn brown and look dead. For a while....
