Anyone out there recommend a good spade for landscaping? I am looking for a compact-head spade (not long nose), preferrably stainless steel, with tough non break handle (can be wood or synthetic), good for general grunt work like hole digging, edging, etc. Do not want sand shovel type, need a cutting spade.

I have AM leonard's which are good. I think these people make them :http://www.wwmfg.com/ They are always at the nursery trade shows. I know people who have had them for over 30 years. They have a dealer locator on their site or you can buy them online. They have many different styles. King of Spades

Hisco brand shovels. I picked one of these up at a plumbing supply store and bought it. Had never held anything like it. It has outlasted every other shovel I own and shows no signs of wear except the tip, which is very thick and can be sharpened. Freaking heavy due to the blade and solid handle, but like I said, this thing is freakin awesome. It was nearly $100, but the other "heavy grade shovels" are usually $50 or more, and this thing has outlasted probably 4-5 rounds of purchasing other shovels. Only problem is it's hard to find a supplier here who keeps them in stock, and you can't order direct. Really sucks. Here's their web page and the shovel I'm talking about is model HI520L.
