I am looking an a frontmount grasshopper with a 52 inch deck and pos. and extra 60 inch deck, non powerfold, with 15 cub metal hoppers

I need a mower that can power through tall and short grass, and bag all the time,

will the gas kubota 29 hrs be enough power or should i run the 25 hrs diesel



Fuel savings?

Life Longevity"

Maintanence?



Please help so i dont buy the wrong unit



also, i am planning on get a fuel tank for my business, and am wondering what fuel discounts tend to be for buying in bulk, this will also determine my choice



Diesel in Toledo is 2.90 a gal
gas is 2.40

New Decks without chains to link them to the mower What s with these metal bars on exmark and toro mowers, is there any deck sway incase you run into anything accidentally or do the bars just bend?


I have a 2006 lazer z 27hp kohler with tripple bagger 60 inch triton deck full floating option with chains, ive hit stuff and the chains have saved my ass and machine from serious abuse.


Any input on these new decks?

We have a 721D Front Mount. Why would you not get a diesel? Engine should last much longer, with fewer problems.

Greener, the diesel will last twice as long, burn less fuel (off-road diesel at that), and require less maintenance. You could equalize its extra cost by not getting the second deck. It won't be much faster (and no faster in tall stuff) and it's mighty heavy to lift manually.

The vacuum system also increases the cost but it works as efficiently as any I've seen. I got mine (with the 25' hopper) mainly for leaves, though I'm now mowing more and more with it. Put some car polish on the hopper floor to help the leaves slide out.

I'm learning now the reasons I dearly wish I had gone for a used 721d instead of the gas engine ZTR I bought instead. Lots of issues (dropped valve at 460 hours, fouling carb & plugs, very sensative to fuel & ethonol content.) Not that the Kubota Gas engine would be near so troublesome---not at all. But the additional torque of the diesel and the fact that since it's designed to run at full load, full speed everyday all day would make me go for the diesel. Plus better resale value. You do NOT need 29 hp on that unit to power through tough grass.

You need to consider gallons of fuel per hour used.

The diesel will probalby use considerably less than my 18-hp gas unit.

The gas 29 hp unit will use considerably more than either unit (and really, you don't need that much power).

That said...if you need a weed mower, look for a small used tractor and attach a 3-pt mounted Woods mower to it. It's hard to tell by your description it's intended use, but don't fool around using a $12k finishing mower as a brush & weed mower.

Well said! I see guys trying to brush hog with $10,000 finish mowers to make a few extra bucks, crazy,crazy!

If you look on tractorhouse.com, there are several used diesel 722's with bagging systems already attached for sale, for quite a bit less than a new unit. More than enough power - but I've never worked with a bagger at all. What does: with 15 cub metal hoppers mean? I've never heard of this?

The GH collects in a rear caster-wheel hopper that you can open from the seat. That one holds 15 cu ft; the bigger bagger bugger (sorry, it's been a long day) is 25 cu ft. The smaller fills fast; the bigger gets heavy for a unit that doesn't have the best traction.

I got the 25 drop-shipped in a factory carton. As simple as it is, the assembly was astonishingly hard. If you buy new, let the dealer put it together.

Update: I'll soon be able to let you know how diesel Grass-hoppers are overall. I purchased one last week, sold my Yazoo, and will be working with it starting this week. It's an older unit (1993) but seemed solid and I hope still has many more years of life left in it.

It's 21-hp diesel, has a 61" deck, i would like to find a 52" deck for it.

wow... '93 is very old unit. We love our 2009 Diesel. Why would you even want to get 2 decks. I would hate changing them all the time. I would advise you to stick with what u got.

My original intent was to swap to a 52" unit and sell the 61". Now that I've used it without issue on all the yards I mow (too few...) I am not going to bother.

Why a '93...well it was all I could afford. Plus it was a one-owner unit from a farm in Indiana; 1830 hours when I bought it, in excellent condition. Even the paint & wiring is still good, not faded or cracked (wiring) and seems very soild and tight. The drives are very tight and touchy. In the end, since it was (a much smaller sum of money) and much more reliable with the diesle than my Briggs - engined Yazoo, I move up to it. Maybe one day I'll consider a newer one.

For pickup trucks I am usually a gas guy unless you have a really big load to tow. For tough mowing diesel wins hands down IMO though. I used to have a little diesel Yanmar with just 16 hp, and with a 42" 3 point mower it would hammer through tall grass that would kill a riding mower with a 25hp gas engine, all the while burning less than 1/2 gallon per hour.
