Have any of you seen the "grass paint" before. It is called Re-Green or Green Lawnger something. Anyway, I saw a restaurant in Winston-Salem NC the other day that had this awesome looking turf. I had to stop and look at it because all the other turf in the area, both fescue and bermuda, was brown and dormant. I actually got down on my hands and knees to look at it, 'cause I was sure going to pull a plug and take home with me to get the "miracle turf" analyized. Anyway, it became obvious that it was painted. Do any of you guys do this, I saw some really big $$$ signs!

What you saw was a green lawn dye. It's often used to hide dormant or diseased turf. The kansas City Chief's and Royals use it during the season to enhance the color of their turf for TV.

I've used it in the exclusive "rich" area's of kansas City with round-up. The homeowner did not want to see the dead turf while the new seed grew in.

It works well with dormant turf ands generally causes alot of stare and questions.

I have used the product that lesco sells, we would use it in areas where the overseeding of winter rye didn't take good and you could't tell the difference. I t is messy to use though do not get on any thing that you dont waant it on including yourself because it does not come off

Coveralls the cheap one time use are great for this, applying depends on the size of the area, smaller ones use a back pack, larger areas we use a boom sprayer with a no drift cover. The hardest part is mixing it and applying it in very cold weather, we use warm water and use foam pipe insulation over the wand right up to the tip, do the same for the boom sprayer. Make sure you clean it up right away too hard to remove.

moonarrow,
I was thinking of using it with some pre-annual and annual rye lawns can you get two types of color to match both of these? Also, I was talking to a grounds keeper that takes care of our local sports fields here and he said he would just use when they went on t.v. because it didn't match good with the bermuda only if you look at it from far away it would. The rye grass blends in good though huh?

Thanks, Jay

What about with mowing and such. If I were to spray this on say mid June when I am cutting at just under 3", how many weeks have you found the effects to last since they say it doesnt wash off in the rain??

How close to concrete/pavement/curbing are you able to apply this product (with minimal winds of course)??

Thanks again
Kris

It seems like it last forever, of couses the area your spraying isn't growing much so your not cutting it off, as far as curbs and sidewalks I use a piece of cardboard or something as a shield when spraying, it will stain the concrete and will not come off

Around here a lot of guys spray it on Zoysia in October and by April it has pretty much faded. (Here zoysia turns brown from late Sept to May) Looks funny when its first applied, esp when the co makes a line down the property line, but within a few days the color mellows and you really dont notice that its paint unless you saw them spray it (or see the line, cant they fog it in, LOL.)

Lawn painting is great!!!!When my lawns turn brown because of frost, I paint them using Lesco Green Turf paint, available through Lesco. It is fairly expensive..about $40.00 per gallon, but for the high end lawns, it does a wonderful job for those willing to pay for it. It is a great source of extra $$$$ during the winter months. And neighbors will be talking about the lawns for weeks......
