i called a gentleman about a gravely 260z that he has listed for sale. it is supposed to be an 03 with 25 hp kawasaki engine, hyd lift and in very good condition. he wants 3400 dollars. i would like to have a second mower so my wife and i can both mow at times. should i go look at this mower or is 1700 hrs to many on this engine. thanks in advance

1700 hours is a lot of hours for any mower. i would look for something with under 1000 hours. i wouldn't give $3400 for it either. better drive it and check it out REAL well before you buy it. ask what's been replaced on it so far. if it's a LCO selling it. he's sellin it for a reason

Depending on how it was cared for, the useful life of that engine is usually considered to be about 2000 hours. However, they can go 3000 hours or more.
I would consider it a risky purchase at that price.

As a comparison, I sold a 2002 Gravely 250 with hydraulic lift, 670 hours, for $3,300 in 2007. I sold a 2007 260, hydraulic lift, 27 horse Kawasaki last fall for $4,000 to my daughter and her husband. It had 930 hours, I believe.
