plan was to pull pipe on two jobs yesterday, then go back and finish each one sequentially.

only got one done, cuz we had nothing but issues with the machine. got a rental toro dingo with plow. it was weak from the start i thought, and had a tough time steering for sure. finally got the first one done, after many many hiccups(some from a crappy prep of the machine ie missing bolts on the lplow blade etc etc).

went to the second one, only to get the first 20 ft of main/wire in and hydro fluid poured out of the machine, acted fast and got it back to the trailer. ended up having to dig out some soil, and cat litter a huge spot under the trailer after i got done loading it up before it lost all fluids:cry:

took it back to trade for another(they were quite good to us for this) and it ended up being the hydro filter came off under the hood!

crazy, somebody was sleepy that day when preparing the machine me thinks:hammerhead:

anyone have this kind of thing happen in their many years of installing?

Snapped the throttle cable on our ditch witch last week in the pouring rain, and of course on the second run of six to do. So of course it was saturday afternoon and our dealer was already done for the day
Got it pinned wide open and ran it that way for about another hour.
It was a PITA for sure but hey we got it done and already have the new cable installed. So yeah i feel your pain.

This is just one of the many reasons I got out of doing installs years ago. Too many unforeseen issues that kill your bid price. Unfortunately, I got sucked into doing a couple right now :( One is for an existing customer that lost her home in the fire. She moved to another home that does not have a system. Soil conditions are awful, plumbing tap is awkward and ugly (will post photos). Oh - and I watched a big ol' bobcat attack a rabbit while I was there assessing the place for a bid. Damn thing was 30' from me.

I did have a rental puller break down one time in a back yard. They had to come winch it out. Luckily at that point I was using it to run back over the lines to compact them back down.

    Yeah sucked for sure.

A puller of our own is dependant of how well installs take off as regular work.....awful expensive.

Any of u not buy new.......and get slightly used puller?

Rentals suck, period ! They are never pm'd like you would if it were your own, to many variables. I bought a Burkeen B30b, and have never, ever had a hiccup. We pull anything from 3/4" up to 2" , poly and sch 40. I have used it to pull stumps, trench electrical, irrigation, pull well casing out of the ground, skid trees out of the woods ! :weightlifter: it was bought slightly used.

good to know. never heard of it, will have to look that one up

    looks like real nice machine.

i am more interested in the smaller units like the dingo, due to so many gates to have to fit into and smaller areas. but the power behind one of the more dedicated units like that is i am sure quite nice
