Just wondering if anyone has run the new kobelcos, specifically the 70SR. If so what was it like? Cab comfort, power, smooth or not just the regular excavator questions. Sometime in the future we are going to have to replace ours. I sat in a new 140SR at a gealer a while ago, its got the nicest cab ever hopefully the 70 has the same cab. I know a lot of you guys think the 8 ton machines are an odd ball size, but it works out perfect for us. We cant find a machine in that class that compares to the Kobelco 70.

You may be right the cab in the midsize Kobelco machines is very nice. I would look at the 80CS over the 70. I think if you are going to buy in this size that the swing boom is a must have, my opinion of course, but it would make the machine much more useful.

I know what you mean with the 80CS, the swing boom is very useful. It does lengthen the tailswing some, not much though.

Man, i must live in the land of misfits; track loaders running around like rabbits and 7+ ton excavators with fixed booms out numbering the same sizes with swing booms.

I've never run a 8 toner to compare to the 7 toner. That said, i defiantly like the feel of 7 ton machines over 5 ton swing boom machines. I always wanted to try out a parallel offset machine, but between gray market machines and all the extra pins, i'm not really sure i'd want to own one.

The Komatsu, Hitachi 60 sized machines and the CAT 307 got a good hold of that market years ago. The swing boom is fairly new. I see no purpose in a conventional style when you could have a swing boom. All the above OEMS and many others offer them now in this size machine. I ran a 9007 CASE with the Par. Offset boom. It was pretty cool, except there was some issue with putting a thumb on it. I never bought it. The Takeuchi TB180FR is probably the most versatile machine in this class. The side to side boom is a great feature.
