I was exposed to really loud sound while mowing my yard with a lawn tractor.
Both my ears are still ringing and badly muffled.

Is it temporary and what should I do about it?

It should just be temporary, but if it persists see a doctor. Make sure next time you wear hearing protection. Good luck!

I don't think there's much a doctor can do, other than run some tests and tell you that either it comes back or it doesn't, unfortunately.

    But I can recommend ...
Lots of peace and quiet, hours and hours, maybe a day or two.
    And a good night's rest.

While doing that learn the lesson of how we fail to appreciate what we have until
it's gone and memorize the reasons and needs behind using hearing protection.

It should be fine had the same kind of thing happen to me at a gun range when someone fired a 44mag close to me when I didn't have my ear plugs in. It took couple days for ringing to stop but hearing came back fine. I always wear hearing protection when mowing or using any loud piece of equipment, don't want to lose my hearing.

I didn't realize that it was necessary to protect my hearing.

It is... it doesnt seem like you need to when your young and invincible but it will catch up with you eventually if you have longterm exposure. a 20 buck pair of hearing protection is a simple way to make your life is alot easier once you get older. hope this helps!
