My Isuzu runs great but sounds like a school bus would heavier oil quiet down a deisel engine? Valves are adjusted no exhaust leak. Trucks in great shape I just like things a little bit quieter.

Is it valvetrain noise you're hearing? Are you sure?

The fuel injection system on diesels, specifically the injection pump, makes quite a bit of noise and the oil isn't going to quiet it down.

ESP WHEN YOU ARE PRACTILY SITTING ON TOP OF THE MOTOR about the only thing you could do is maybe try to put some more or some kind of noise reduction panels under the cab

The Npr's are 4 cyl and a lot quieter.

like 5 0 said the injection pump makes most of the noise..thats why common rails are so quiet.

try to find #1 diesel or add cetane boost, should help with injector noise after a tank or two. Heavier oil will make it noisier on start-up, injector pump will work harder until the engine warms-up, and it could increase wear as well
