hello all! I'm new around here figure I introduce myself before I ask a couple questions, I'm 19 ive been in the landscape scene my whole life (since 6 my pop started me early haha) I recently just took over my dads business after he passed (2nd gen ftw)
This is my second year in business now and so far it has been going really well besides people getting a little cheaper due to the economy. I'm always looking for ways to expand my business while still trying to keep a decent overhead. Last year I handed out about 10,000 flyers throughout the season and picked up a decent amount of jobs and lawns I'm very happy with what I picked up but I know there has to be more effective ways to advertise. I was looking into sending my flyers through the mail via zip codes but that is really really expensive and I don't really feel like a phone book add would be very effective.

So in essence after all that ranting I just did what do you guys think the most effective way of advertising is and what would my other options of advertisement be.

Also I would like to get into commercial property's/town house areas but i'm not actually sure who I'm supposed to speak to do I just go in and ask for the manager?

Thanks ahead of time guys and sorry for the wall of text

As far as town houses or maybe even subdivisions, find out if they have HOA. Get in contact with them and ask if you could submit bids for lawn service/ landscape. Advertising wise, yellow pages, craigslist, flyers, and word of mouth. Maybe try giving your clients a certain discount if they refer you to someone and get a contract.
