So why would it need CDL if you put 8 tons in it?

CDL or not you'd be burned being overweight no? 16500 empty and 8 tons is 32500. You said GVW 2550 right

You might be able to find a single axle 33k gvw dump that would work legally for you. but if you need 8 tons or close to it on a regular basis I would get a tandem axle truck no question about it. Plus if your off on you load calcs a overwieght ticket is expensive!

Thank you everyone for the help. I've decided to hire a dump for this job and wait to just buy a tandem. Sooo tandem around 20,000$???? Any ideas?

keep hiring it out lol. had 60 yds of topsoil deliver today, just built it into the job.
I don't want to pay for, maintain, or hire someone to drive a tandem until i need it weekly.

    where are you in NY
