Here's a few pointers; http://tewarehouse.com/Catalog?sc=2&search=397358&go.x=8&go.y=14
I thought some might like to see what model and age of unit we are working on . This was a tiller that i posted was going to the dump. Then the boss asked what a new one cost and cheap one was $1000. So since we have limited use he said to try to fix it....
Now if I get spark will I need to do anything to this carb? I almost don't want to even touch it for fear I might break it. No squirrely seat to worrry about here.
If it's been sitting up you can bet it's going to need a good cleaning and new diaphragm...... Here's a how-to on get'n it done; http://outdoorpowerinfo.com/repairs/briggs_pulsa-jet_horiz_adj.asp
Fouled points...a little rust...I can smell the fuel tank from here...
Before you remove the carb...try this..
Dump the tank..
Remove the adjustment screws
Remove the fuelpump cover and the diaphram...and blast brake cleaner thru all the ports and jets..
Replace the diaphram and reinstall the adjustment screws...
Gas it up and see if it runs..
I guess I can buy this cheapo unit.....talked to the chat women and they don't know nothing about a coil that gets rid of the points
Sadly I was too dumb to figure out which one of the several items you pointed me to woudl work
That is one old engine Briggs stop painting they engines in white over 25 years or more
That's because the chat "woman" doesn't know squat..... The one you linked IS the proper one to eliminate points.....
The briggs is running and a big thanks to all that provided input. In the end it only cost me 29cents. I cleaned and adjusted the points then shot some ether in it and immediately had backfire and sheared the flywheel key. Got a new key simply chocked it this time and it fired and ran. I had cleaned up the gas tank. I poured a little of my magic potion in tank let it run for a couple hours and took it out and tilled.
Thanks to th eexperts...
now that we have the tiller working...how about a garden over at Magnolia?
Might need to drill a well or tap the neighbors water. And probalby will
need a critter fence.
