Anyone heard any news on the new Sport Utility Truck that Honda is going to produce in 2005? I know this is only a Mid-Size pick-up and from the pictures I've seen its pretty darn ugly. I know it can't be used for any heavy LCO work but this could lead to a full size version later on. I've heard rumors of engine swapping between General Motors (5.3 liter Vortec for full size Honda pickup), Isuzu (Diesel or Duramax) and Honda's 4 and 6 cylinders (for GM cars). Imagine the possibilities with a Honda truck with a Duramax Diesel. This could even lead to Honda research on larger equipment engines, say for ZTR's and large W/B's. Even better a Duramax Diesel ZTR...

All it is a Honda Pilot with the back cut out to make a pickup bed. I would not call it a mid-size , but rather a compact truck.

Also, GAS guzzling and what a joke, the truck cocooned in plastic...I don't see the old steel tough and hardened Chevy anymore.

TRex said it correctly, it's for the folks who rather put their bags of mulch in the bed rather than inside the cab.

They would also have to make it much heavier to support a currently available diesel motor.

I bet this pickup takes a large chunk out of an already dwindling American small-truck markets. Is it useful for heavy loads - heck no, but that's not their target audience.

I'd disagree that Japanese manufacturers can't make trucks. Like their passenger vehicles they are built to last.
