Horizontal or Vertical shaft engines

    I am purchasing a new Exmark 50" Triton deck with the 27HP Kohler. What if any are differences / advantages to choosing between a vertical or horizontal crankshaft mounted engines? Thanks for any comments!!!

    Vertical shaft engines don't require a mule belt deck drive.

    Other than that, I've seen both last a real long time.

    Verticle seems to be more efficent with out the mule belt system. I ran Lazers with 25 Kohlers in the past (Horizontal). I replaced them with a Super Z 27 Kohler on the 72 in deck. The 27 turns the large deck just fine. I was also surprised how well my 18 Kohler does on my Lazer hp 48". Verticle shaft engines are on the Super Z and the HP
