Our pricing seems to be comparable. I believe they get better service from us, and yes personal accountability. The biggest problem comes on what they ( the national squirt & ferts) have trained the public on buying. Most what a " per application " price. And then want to tell you how many "applications" that there lawn needs before you have even seen it. This is the mind set that the public has been taught. This is done by the big guys because its the only thing they can sell and do on that large of a scale. We sell an IPM program of "seasonal" lawn care. Each lawn getting what it needs in a season, and only what we feel it needs.This is very hard for allot of customers to understand. So its an uphill sell for us. PR

ChemLawn is gods gift to LCOs...

Chemlawn advertizes relentlessly, and creates a HUGE market for our services. then they make their customers mad (40% of them every year) and those customers often look at LCOs... thus we all profit from chemlawn. They make money... we make money... everyones happy! ('cept their customers of course)

Agreed. They do set standards. And they do promote the industry.

I was reading servicemaster's annual report and they cite their customer retention rates as being under 60%. I've come up with alot of fun sounding ads poking fun at chemlawn, but don't want to make any enemies. My retention rate is much higher than theirs.

Is it wrong to use a mailer around the same time as chemlawn with a trivia question like, "which company has a retention rate of under 60%? which company spends tens of millions of dollars marketing all over the country? which company is owner operated and only works in your neighborhood? which company are you going to call to care for your lawn?" and then contact info with my name.

Wouldn't that be a fun ad?

Do you like the negative political adds? I would not what to go to court with them.

Still believe you willnot find any university recommendation to cut any cool season maintained as a lawn above 3 to 3.5" high.

Why would you raise the hoc in summer months,the grass then needs more water, not less!
