I used the search and came up with nothing. I am wondering how you pay yourself. Do I need an accountant to do it? I figure that I would set an hourly wage for myself and only take that out of my gross. The rest would go into different accounts for taxes, insurance, savings, etc. Am I on the right track?

I don't know why this is a secret? But I sorta had the same question... I'm *finally* after all these years going to start "paying" myself. I set up a business account and will deposit all my checks into that, as well as pay all my business expences out of it. Then every 2 weeks or a month I'll transfer my "wage" into my personal account. At least that's my theory... I don't want to keep readjusting it to suit my lifestyle though. I can see my self cheating, lol.

I pay myself a modest amount each month. This way, at the very least, I can be putting something towards social security if it is still available when I decide to retire.

Some guys I know don't take a paycheck at all. Maybe I'm missing something on this approach, but I want to keep the IRS at a safe distance.

I can't figure out why it's a secret as well.

I have had a business and personal account since day one. It's the only way when your running a business.

I have my self set up on a salary. I pay myself the same amount on the first of every month by check. It works for me....

$200/mo for my truck payment. Thats it. It sucks.

I have a p/t job that barely gets me by, im trying to do it the right way and paying for everything in cash instead of credit. Its tough, but it'll work out

well that just doesnt make sense to me. Im going the same route with buying everything on my own before I jump in. When I get on my first lawn, Ill have every bit of equipment I need and some backup stuff as well. So if you have your equipment and you dont pay on a loan for it, where is all of your money going? Sorry if Im prying, but it just doesnt make any sense unless your overhead is higher than cheech and chong or you just arent getting any work. Im sorry if Im coming off like a d***, but I just dont understand how you arent making any money at all.

You can never have everything you want, you save for another mower, get that, then you want a skid steer, then a dump, then another mower, then add another truck, new plow, new salter, your just constantly building, eventually you'll have to quit your p/t job and then you'll have to start paying yourself
