For the 1-3 person businesses to start off and make enough money to get winters off or just not really have to worry too much about the amount of accounts you have? Or feel comfortable with all aspects of the work you do? like applying chemicals etc...

In other words how long til you "made it"

I haven't "made it" yet after 4 years. I make enough to get by with my "other" job. ;) .
I find that I reinvest a lot of the money I make and as my equipment and experience improves in quality, my business grows. Started with virtually nothing but a push mower and a pickup and a willingness to bust my buns.
I will consider myself as at the "made it" point when I can make as much from the business as I now make from my 2 jobs.
One nice thing, I now refer to my "other" job as my temporary job. Been there 20 years and am sick of working for someone else. The biggest drive mechanism to success. :cool2:
