I brought in a commercial lawnboy that was running real rough and then shutting off to my dealer, he took apart the carb and cleaned it, replaced it, charged me 175.00. His published labor rate is 58/hr. To me this seems real high- I've seen a carburetor taken on and off a similar mower in 20 minutes, I can't see how it took 3 hours just to clean it. Is that a reasonable amount of time by normal dealer pricing standards?

Seems high to me, maybe he works slow? Maybe he has only one hand? I would have done it myself...its not hard to do.

Not once you include troubleshooting it isn't...

Yeah I could've probably done it if I tinkered for a while (only know how to do the absolute basics of maintenance), but it was a time issue.

There was no troubleshooting. I went in there having cleaned the filter, changed the spark plug, mower had a new ignition coil, fresh gas, and I told him all that beforehand..the guy said right away it was a carburetor issue.
