How many I have is irrelevant, it's how much money I make per an hour.
I'll have to disagree with this slightly. I agree with what I think Mike was trying to convey - if you're not profitable it doesn't matter how many accounts you have. But that being said, the total number of accounts DOES make a big difference.
My 170 or so accounts at an avg. of $30- $35 per man hour are going to bring in a lot more money each month than Joe Blow's 25 accounts at $45 per man hour. Now if Joe is able to keep up that same profitablility when he gets to 170 clients, like me, then he'd be kicking my butt. But until then, I am doing much better overall.
And actually, the man hour rate isn't the best tool for comparison either. Everyone's costs vary and I may be making GREAT money at $35 per man hour (being that I use older trucks, pay almost nothing for dumping yard debris, use cheaper labor, etc.) and Joe Blow may be making very little, even at his $45 per hour because maybe he uses new trucks, the dump is 30 miles away, it costs a fortune to dump, gas is more expensive where he lives, no cheap labor, etc.......
