Just curious how many grow their own plants and shrubs?

Any good techniques a noob should consider?

On a serious note - we plant thousands upon thousands of trees, shrubs, etc. a year, and don't grow any. Occasionally we'll bump up existing inventory (that we've bought from growers) to larger container sizes. That's the extent of our growing, though. Trust me, if it made sense, we'd do it.

I grow Hastas and decorative grasses to sell/install on jobs. I start the grasses in those ferry morse mini-green house seed starters. The Hastas are like invasive weeds and I just seperate them and pot them as needed.

Hostas is what you mean. Growing is my favorite thing to do in this business. Rose of sharon, Gaura, Speedwell, coneflower, blanket flower, Coreopsis, Salvia, russian Sage, Lantana and a bunch of others I grow. Perennials are what I specialize in. Been growing for 6 years now. Pots and soil I get for wholesale.

You would think someone that sold hostas as part of their living, could spell it correctly. :dizzy:

i have been known to do so myself. i have extensive gardens of my own and i sometimes pot and grow out the seedlings and or plants i had to dig up to thin. i sell them to customers once in a while and they are always great looking plants and most of the times bigger than nursery grown too.

i would like to grow more at our shop in the future for selling, but we will see. that is just one more iron in the fire to watch so...............

I have a small greenhouse. Grow and sell veggie plants in the spring. If I had the time I would divide and sell stuff I have in the yard (Ferns, mints, hostas, cone flowers and much more)

No. Sticking is a term used in plant propagation.
