How many miles are to many?

    not really bad for the truck....just bad on the wallet. the black smoke is just unburnt fuel being forced through the motor and out the exhaust. something that doesnt roll coal when you put your foot down is much more efficient and in some case putting out more power than the coal rollers.

    I've got two 7.3's. One is a 96 and the other is a 97. The 97 has 162k and has been taken off the DD task and my 96 has 226k and is my work horse. I have no problems or second guesses waking up every morning and getting to work with it. Pulling my trailer or pushing snow.

    A small dump wouldn't really work for me because of the concrete and rock I haul. I'd like to have no smaller than a single axle international with a 466..(I think is what it is)

    We have a 95 International 4900 with the DT466 and the truck is a hoss :weightlifter:. Has pleanty of power to haul a load of concrete, dirt, whatever you want to load on it. Looking at the Atlanta Craigslist for similar trucks, they are much more reasonable than the 450's and 550's and have more legal capacity.

    I was recommending the 550 size(even a 350/450 size) if you were looking to substitute that for a pickup. That way you have a better towing rig and still can haul small amounts(the 550 will be much better with more capacity). When I had that 350 with a flatbed dump, while it didn't carry much it was great for attachments or carrying stuff that wouldn't fit in a pickup bed.

    If you are thinking of going with a 'two ton' dump then this is another topic. Around here you can get well spec'ed old county single axles pretty cheap($5-10,000 range). A regular single axle wouldn't be too bad, that's what I started with and now you can get much better trucks(diesel/auto).

    I didn't really think about using a 450/550 dump like that..

    Started having some serious motor problems out of my 6.0.. So its completely removed from pulling any trailers. Priced a used motor from a salvage yard at $1250.

    So I've settled on a 2500/3500 4wd diesel for now. That gives me another daily driver and something to move my equipment and dump trailer with. Just gotta find the right one..

    I don't believe that year was a turbo diesel.. I think the 6.0 gasser has more HP, not sure on torque.

    That said its low miles and very stable to tow with!

    that truck has a 454..

    But if it was a diesel, it'd be a 6.5 turbo diesel..which I dont want..

    You would be better off paying for your new 6.0 and a weeks rental car..my 2cents
