As in 60" pull type mowers like Swisher or Acrease? Swisher weighs 500, the base Acrease weighs 400.
Dixies use a unique hydro system called a Quad Loop along with specially modified wheel motors that have ZERO side loading. Quad Loop hydraulics are normally only used in much higher horsepower applications like skid steers. Not sure about the dixie chopper towing more then all of the others as they are more built on speed but I guess it depends on the model.
huh dixie I worked on had hydrogear pumps and ross wheel motors... I was and am not aware of anything special in that part of a dixie chopper mower. I know for years they did not do well on hills as they had speed but not torq,Dixies use a unique hydro system called a Quad Loop along with specially modified wheel motors that have ZERO side loading. I agree with Richard...it depends on the mower. (Don't know anything about the DC)This is where all mowers are not built the same. It will usually state the towing capacity in the owners manual. Some mowers like Exmark don't like you to tow anything. They have a really low stated capacity. Others like Dixie Chopper will allow you to tow just about anything that you want. BTW, Dixie has the highest tow rating in the industry at 2,000 pounds. They also use a very unique (to lawn mowers) hydro system.
Look at the wheel motors a whole lot closer. They are completely different from any other wheel motor and don't interchange with any other mower. The Dixies with Quad Loop can be easily identified by the existance of 4 hoses, 2 hydro and 2 return, on each wheel motor.huh dixie I worked on had hydrogear pumps and ross wheel motors... That's interesting I wonder where that number comes from is that regular towing all day every day if so i can understand. But as far as the strength of the Exmarks my 60 regularly pushes with its leaf plow piles over 500 pounds and has moved piles far heavier then that when we had to clear a way out of driveways in the past. My lazer 44 has pulled both her sister mowers up hills to the trailer when we have had break downs and that's a lot of weight 1150 pounds empty plus about 100 pounds fuel plus front weights 75 pounds plus trac vac 125 pounds plus grass in the barrel sometimes. so I can confirm my smallest mower can tow 1500 pounds but for how long before I would blow a pump I have no idea. The little mower also only has the 10 cc pumps some have 16 and 20 something.Just wanted to mention that I investigated the low rated towing capacity on Exmarks years ago. The factory rep told me that the rating (I think it was 140 pounds but I could be wrong) was basically for a dead load, like if you were dragging it.

I've been pulling a 60" Swisher behind my BB Lightning for a year and a half with no problems. I asked about towing a 450 lb mower and BB said "no problem". The hitch they sell for the Lightning is not a piece of metal bent 90 degrees, it's a 2" receiver hitch like you see on the back of trucks.
The hitch BB sells for the lighter mowers is just a piece of metal bent 90 degrees.
So, as Richard said, I would advise you to check with your dealer about your particular mower.
PS. If you can pull a trailmower with your ZTR, you'll love the combo of using the 2 mowers together!
No I don't at the moment, but there is a video on YT that shows a ZTR using a pull behind mower. Here's the link:Sorry to mess with the thread...but do you have any pics of that combo mowing?
ok I know what your talking about, that is only on the high end model not every dixie chopper though.Look at the wheel motors a whole lot closer. Dixie also has zero side load on the pump input shafts. As more and more load is placed on a mower the pump belt tends to put more and more side load on the pump shaft and as a result it puts more load on the bearings, bushings and shafts. Dixie's exclusive T Gear Box completely eliminates the side load.
It should be on the Silver Eagle, Classic and Xcalibur on up. Only the low ends may not have it.ok I know what your talking about, that is only on the high end model not every dixie chopper though.
