It's that time of year so I'll play Devil's advocate here.

For large turf areas some of the "Big Boxes" were bidding Merit at 20% LESS than their Agency COST of Merit here last year. Idiots. All they did was scout the turf & treat the hot spots with Dylox even when the bids clearly stated the buyer was expecting a blanket application of Merit.

How big are the lawns you're targeting?

they are any where from 1/4 to 5 acres

My previous post wasn't that informative. I price mine like "LawnDawg65" for existing customers, 2.5 times regular application price, but also get 10% OFF. I have charged new customers 3 times a normal appication, but generally the 2-2.5 times is a good place to start.

Let me be more specific since doing the math of round price x 2-2.5 is apparently not "scientific."

I fell that measuring with a wheel and getting an exact square footage is as old school as you can get. In fact if you have access to tax records easily, like I do, you don't even have to see the lawn to give a rough price. You tell the customer if your wrong you'll honor it for the 1st application and adjust for later ones. I have only had to do that once. If your still measureing that way your loosing too much money doing estimates.

So for this sake i will use a 1/2 acre price(this averages to 9-12K sqft of turf) of $59.00 per regular application. So...59 x 2.5 = 147.50 or $145.00

It's specific enough for me, the few lawns i'm loosing on I'll make up on the lawns I'm making out on.

You just have to love the pricing in the northeast. No matter where you are though, your price should be a reflection of your costs, how much you want to sell and what the competition is charging. We, for example, sell grub control to every customer so it has to be priced right. There is no faster way to lose a customer than to have the yard look good all year only to see it dug up in the fall by raccoons and skunks feeding on grubs. There are 2 truisms in this business - the more a customer spends, the better the lawn looks and the better the lawn looks, the happier the customer is. Retention is everything.

I guess I am way too low. But...I combine grub control with summer fertilizer--using a Lesco combination product. One step--no extra labor. Regular rate for the feed--plus regular rate for the Merit. Price then is double regular ap.
Better way is to charge about $20 as arrival fee. Two dollars per minute for application labor, equipment cost and profit. Plus cost of the product you use.

sorry folks....but if you are charging 2.5 times regular app price then you must be paying way to much for the product and if your customers are willing to pay 2.5 times a regular app then you must be one heck of a salesman or your customers are intelligent challenged.

i know the male ego is to come into a message board and tell everyone that your dog is bigger/smarter than everyone elses. sooo, ok, maybe i'm all wrong here and maybe you really do get 2.5 times the amount of a regular app.....but i'm willing to bet your customer count is pretty darn low

unless i am totally not understanding the question (seems simple enough though) and i want to be clear.....are you saying for grub control alone...no fert... you get 2.5 times more......or are you adding in the cost of fert as well like RigglePLC is doing??

This is not my "male ego" talking...

Mach 2 w/o fert.... A regular application price of $50, that customer would get charged $100-$125 depeding on the lawn (ease of doing, how good of a customer, etc).

If I did Mach with fert, I would leave 2 invoices. One for $50 for the fert and weed control. And another for the Grub Control for $100-$125

My prices for the product are fine.
