How to disconnect coupling on kohler efi fuel pump

Got a kohler ech730 efi with the black fuel pump that has a coupler on the line going to the throttle body

How do you disconnect this coupler?

Also, the guy said he's put 2 fuel pumps on this motor already, but I've testes voltage to the pump and getting 12.5 volts, but I hear no sound when I plug it in. Is there a problem with these pumps or?

I asked if he was replacing with oem, and he said yes, but I suppose he could be getting Chinese pumps. Why would it be eating the pumps?

The release on the connector looks trashed, might need to find some of those fuel line connector release tools and hope for the best when installing the new pump that it securely latches. That is an older pump with the plastic top retainer clips. The newer pumps have metal clips and seem to have a better service life

Ok, that's good to know. Maybe the connector clip is so messed up it can't be pressed in enough to function anymore. It broke so clean and square I thought I was dealing with a Chinese jigsaw puzzle of the highest magnitude (I damaged it further by pulling the small piece with pliers, can see the plier marks in the pic)

Good to know they've updated the pumps. Thanks for the info

I figured it out. Took awhile, but I got it. No thanks to Kohler service manual. Which said to "press release button(s) which is total bs. And had me pressing the thing in the total wrong direction, since only one side can be pressed anyway

You have to push the white clip out. Or maybe "remove white clip"

C'mon kohler service manual people, is

Thanks, another good bit of info.

The reason I asked was after putting it on, it did work, kinda. It cranked and ran for about 30-45 seconds, but then started spitting and sputtering. It was overflowing gas. (Needle valve not sealing properly) and the gas was running through the breather hose into the intake

Probably some debris got inside the inlet pipe and got caught in the valve and now it's overflowing. I did flush out the line before connecting. It's just as likely the debris was in there when I got it anyway. Being a take-off

That's why I wondered about the p/n differences
