I know I'm not the only one to do this. I have dropped several over the years. One lady was and absolute b**** and assumed I bagged the grass for the low price I gave her. I said no. She wanted it bagged, I said it would be 2-3 times the price. Mowing her lawn 3 times was enough. I have dropped others. The last guy complained about his grass getting long about 3 years ago when it rained every day. I said well its like this for all my other customers cause it won't stop raining,,, it still didn't sink into his thick skull. At the end of the season I said I was taking my lawn service in a different direction and would not mow his lawn. Here in Minnesota we can drop a customer without giving them a reason. If its mid season I give them 2-4 weeks notice. I don't know if there is a law stating how much notice is needed.

I am always very careful how I tell a pita to get lost.
Last year we started putting a clause into our agreements that says "company or customer may cancel service at any time with a 30 day written notice".
As you know, once a customer turns into a pita they will always be a pita and I frankly have no desire to listen to their whining.
In the case you mention here, I would simply send her a letter politely telling her that service will cease on "x" date, sooner if she can find a new service provider. If she asks why, tell her, again politely of course.
In all things about running a business, I have found that honesty is the best policy so you might as well face the music with her now.
I woulf be surprised if there are any laws in your state that prohibit you from firing her and if there are, I'd still do it. MOst of us work very hard to please our customers and we dont need grief from them when we are doing our best to keep after things after 2 years of non stop rain .

I try to be as PC as possible when I drop accounts, because you certainly don't want anyone bad mouthing your company. here is a copy of the letter we just sent out.

I used to just drop PITA accounts but kinda stopped. What I do now is increase their price to an insane level and let them "quit me" if they don't then at least we are getting paid well to put up with them.

A 50% increase in mowing fees usually sends them to the exit. I've done it a couple of times with PITA's and never heard from them again.

Raise their rate, ALOT! IF they stay, at least you are getting paid to listen to the whining. If not, NO BIG LOSS.
