I have a Hustler Fastrack with a drive motor problem. The hydrogear unit on the right side does not drive. It is a 311-2600R / 788059.

Is it a good idea to take this unit apart and find the failed pieces and rebuild?
Is it best to just buy a new unit at about $850?

My mower is just over 3 years old, so warranty is probably not an option.

    Any advice will be appreciated!

I would also like to know the answer here....so heres a bump. How many hours were on the mower when it went. Is it an IZT, EZT or is that the ZT2800?
Try to google just the part number or you can always email Hydro-Gear

My mower is about 4 years old. only used for my residential use and i do not know the hours, maybe 500 hours. The model number for the Hydro-gear is a 311-2600R that has been superseded to model # 788059. It is a pump/drive unit combo.

I checked the Hustler site and the current Fastrack 54 like i have does use the zt2800. However, because my unit is 3-4 years old it has the 788059 for the Right side unit. i google the part number and found 3 sites that have the unit for $850 - $950. In comparison the zt2800 drive units are about $710.

So if any one has experience with this, it would be great to spend a day of time and 50 bucks on parts as opposed to $850, if it is feasible??????

Thanks for the tip KCFireman. i posted a thread to the hustler forum this morning, but they have not posted it yet. that was 8 hours ago.

Are there no mechanics with experience on these hydro-gear units that read this forum.

In that case try posting under the forum "Mechanic and Repair"
But PJ will get back to you within 24 hours if you posted in the Hustler forum. Have you tried your dealer?

Part number 788059 is for the right side. Mine just went out also. I have tried to get a disount for this from hydrogear and from hustler. Both told me that if I could get this part for 850 to buy it. The dealer I have it with said the housing was damaged so repair is not an option. I like Huslter mowers but am not at all happy with this probelm. 850 is very expensive and that is only one side what if the other goes out. hydrogear is in my opinion not stepping up behind their products. Not to mention the 200 hundred to put it on. Verry unhappy. May fix and change brands. Exmark or something. Hustler has let me down.

    I believe Exmark uses hydrogear.

I have a Hustler mini fastrak with close to 600 hrs and no prob with hydros and mine ezt = unserviceable. They are supposed to last for 1500 hrs.

Just Fyi PJ moderates that forum meaning he needs to approve the post before it appears.
But my experience is they may have a rebuild kit available but you will be hard pressed to find one.
Just be happy you did not need to replace a pump also.
But whatever route you go you should change the hydro oil and filter.
