I have had my Hustler Z for year now and I love it. Very tough mower and the quality of cut is just as good as Exmark in my opinion. I've got the 52inch deck with a 23 hp Kawasaki. I do wish that I would have got a little more horsepower. My next one will probably have the same size deck with at least 27 HP.

When I bought mine last year I paid $6800 plus tax. That was about $600 less than a comparable Exmark with the same deck size and engine.

i have a super z and its a good mower. The only thing I don't like is if I have to back up on a hill from a stop. Depending how steep you can spin the tires. I think this could be true for most ztr's when they back up. I have the 27hp and wouldn't want any less. I wish I could have a light kit on it but they dont' recommend it because they have fans to cool the hydro's that run.

I have a 25/54 super walk-behind and wouldnÂ’t trade it for any other brand out there. When I was looking for a new mower I looked at all the brands, I picked the Hustler because of their H-bar, 25-horse power engine. Their walk-behinds are very well built and easy to service. Not to mention I got a better price on the Hustler than Scag or Exmark with smaller engines. I almost bought a Z at the same time that I purchased my walk-behind but the Super W-B eliminated that need. Another reason that helped me choose Hustler is they have a forum on this site, when you need any help from Hustler you can get it here! Their support is second to none in my books. They build great machines with great support at a fair price! I havenÂ’t ever thought that I may have made the wrong decision.

Ok here it is im looking at a Grasshopper and a Super Mini Z

Grasshopper 227 27hp kohler 52" $7,899
223 23hp kohler 52" $7,099
220 2hp kohler 52" $6,599

Super Mini Z 25hp kaw 52" $7,495

Does anyone have pictures of the mowers in action?

What are the pro's and con's?

What do you like about it?

What problems have you had with it and how fast was it fixed?

Can you really go 13mph and cut grass or what speed is good to cut at

Im really look at the super mini z

Last but not lesst do you know if the hustler for 2005 has a 18in blade or is it still 17 3\8

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOU HELP

I did use the search button first but all of the post where old i did read all most all of them thanks again

Hustler is arguably the best 'company' in the industry right now. But you should demo several brands of equipment in order to be a fair judge of the Hustler mower's performance. I would also encourage you to demo Hustler's full size 60" Machine.

As far as pricing goes on what you are looking at, The 227/52" Grasshopper will be a very strong mower. But I can buy the same machine with a 72" deck for less than that. You might want to 'check' the dealer on that one.

As far as the Mini Z pricing, I don't remember what my dealer quoted on the Super Mini when I was shopping. But I do remember the the quote of $6,299 for the standard 52" Mini Z. But I could ask him if you want because I did do 'other' business with him. I feel he is pretty fair on his pricing because his 60" Super Z price was $7,795.

I've got a 60 in Super Z w/ a honda 24hp. I love the machine, but honestly it's had some issues; the muffler burnt turf on alot of accounts, burnt out six blade switches in 3 months both issues were dealt with. A heat shield for the burn't turf and finally a new clutch stopped the blade switch problem. I had a tough six months with a new machine but when it runs it performs like no other. Something else is IMO the Bac-Vac collection system needs more capacity 9 bushels for a 60 or 72 incher is not commercial.

bought a super mini Z this year.
it rocks.
have had exmarks, and some things are better, some aren't

the hydro's are much better, no jerkyness at all, very well dampened
lifetime warranty on frame, deck (if you ever bend it and it won't cut you get a new one)
lifetime warranty on hydrualic lines never to leak.
3 year ( most others are 2) on everything else.
15 mph speed, the thing is a race car.
self leveling gas tanks
suspension seat
no tools belt changes
only 7 grease points, all weekly& monthly-- no daily
electric cooling fan for hydrualics

dislikes:
Much heavier
smaller tires
smaller unit overall, so not as stable on slopes

I thought it was lifetime warrenty only on the leading edge of the deck?

Well, I would have thought it would do better on slopes. What eXmark are you comparing too? Which unit did you get? The one with the 23x9.5 rears or the one with 20x10 rears?

I agree the 13x5 fronts are too skinny. Just be glad you don't have 11x4 fronts like I have. Way too skinny and too dang short too.

yes, it is on the leading edge, but have you mangled any other part???

i have a viking, had a tuf tracer, and demo'd a lazer z 48", and a toro z master

we use small deck machines due to the small property sizes here, and also several of our accounts are fairway quality 419 bermuda. One bermuda property is very hilly, that's the only place we have issues. we just use the WB's on the steep slopes.

my father ( has a separate business) uses a toro z master and i have used it quite a bit. I like the hustler way better than it.

Cut quality is our primary concern though.
i was dubious about the hustler. thought it was too production oriented.
no problems at all.

I have heard nothing but good things about the 200 series Grasshoppers. They are also worth a good hard look. One thing that I like about them is the in-frame suspension system. The machine has two seperate frames. It has a main frame for the machine itself and then another frame on top of that one the operators platform is mounted to. There is large rubber blocks the the operators frame is mounted on so the ride is a lot smoother. have also heard that the duramax decks are hard to beat.

I would have to agree with Travis about the Grasshoppers. In a short time they have really taken over here as the new most popular ZTR. The Duramax decks are nice and hard to beat. They cut well and are also a 5 1/2" deep deck. Everyone says they are tough and dependable.

I for one just with they would give them a styling makeover. I think they would sell a ton more of them if they did. The tan is not so bad, looks good with the red pin stripes, but that chocolate brown has got to go. I also do not care for what they cover the seats with. It sucks on rainy days.
