Debating on which one to buy. I have 5 acres with slight hills. Will also be doing my neighbors yard and my rental house (part of their contract)
Hustler seat is extremely comfortable but did not the that it wasnt chain hung on the deck

IMO....don't buy the seat! You are buying the dealer (support) more than anything else. You can change the seat to an air or mechanical suspension seat for between $200-600. Or just add an air or mech. insert.

The Hustler SDX has the Kawi FX series engine which is a favorite of mine and many others. What engine does the Toro have?

Both the Hustler and Toro will last assuming they are properly maintained. Get the biggest deck (60?) that than you can fit on your properties.

Don't buy it for the seat!!!!

EDIT - what state do you live in? What types of grass are you cutting?

I will for sure get a 60 inch

Looking at the decks the hustler feels thicker were the toro has the cow killer I call it angled doubled over metal strip on bottom. The hustler is a double welded peice.
Both same motor and hydro.
Seat on hustler is better
Seat on toro is more reclined

The hustler deck is hung on a pivoting metal piece
The toro is chain hung ( much nicer )

The toro foot operation is way off to the right the ergo is weird.

The deck raise lower pedal is in much better spot on hustler.

But I don't know hustlers background my shift super has a raptor? No issues at all and its home
Owner grade cutting 10 acres a week

I'll be cutting around 14 total a week my yard and neighbors will pay me to do theirs.

My best friend owns a landscaping business and he uses scags and a toro stand up. But his machines are used all day every day so I'm buying my own.

Scags out of my price range. Hustler are nice looking in person, toro is well known for being very reliable and parts and service for both is same. Shop is 4 mile from my house

The shop that's 4 miles away has a good reputation?

Can you demo each one at your home? Forget about how the decks "look"...it's about how they cut YOUR grass. Both decks are heavy duty enough for your needs.

The deck on the SDX is NOT the same as the XOnei (one step up). The XOnei (and up) has Hustler's best deck.

IF you like the Hustler better, maybe look at an XOnei as it has the better deck and separate Parker pumps and motors. Maybe $1000 more (?) and just a better all around unit IMO.

Ergo's are important for sure. Think of how many hours you're going to be on it.

There are Scag's in your price range......

How are the cheaper scags? Yeah for me ergos are huge! I have 2 herniated disc and terrible siatica so that's only reason I mentioned seat, but like you said they can be retrofitted to what ever I need.

The shops reputation is very good. There is another shop 30 miles away that's absolutely outstanding

They sell kubota, ferris, scag, ex mark.

No hustlers though. I ran to the closer shop and hott

With your back situation, you should go test out a Ferris with full suspension, such as the IS2100. You will be amazed at the difference in the ride.

I can't comment on Scags other than the fact that they have a stellar reputation. In the price range you are looking at all of the mowers you are considering are going to be a solid choice. Kind of like do you prefer a blonde or brunette or redhead.you want to get the best engine and hydros you can. To me that's a Kawasaki FX motor and the Parker pumps and motors on the Hustler x1i.sounds like with your back you might want to consider a Milsco adjustable air seat. You can find them on ebay for about $650.

yeah but then he's into ZTR thats over $9,000. Add a milsco seat and the ride quality is awful gosh darn quote close to that 2100 Ferris

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it! I'll look more
Into the ferris. Does the mower ever dip and cut bad with the suspension? Wondering being a new lot the ruts it might have.

How are the decks on the ferris?

Now you've added a woman with sandy colored hair into the mix (Ferris). Ask 10 guys what the best ZTR is and you'll get 7 different opinions.

You're best bet is to get any of the mowers mentioned here and try them on YOUR property. You can't go wrong unless you get a Ferris with a Briggs engine that IS NOT the Big Block (IMO).
