how often should you change your hydro oil? i have a 36" exmark hydro, have had it for almost two years and have never had the oil changed. seems to work just as well as the day i bought it.

I think exmark says that it never needs to be changed, unless you've had a component failure, or it's been contaminated with water or dirt or whatever.

its time to change mine and i would like to here what some are useing please.
That is only half a question. What is the machine you are talking about? It could be any thing from ATF to 20W50. Be like the man I know that put John Deere Hydro fluid (thick as honey) in his log splitter and burned the pump up. Turns out the log splitter was meant to use Dextron III ATF (automatic transmission fluid). So you need to say what it goes it.

I use the JD plus 50 in all my z traks. i believe thats what yours should use but check your manual. You can use other brands but I fould its only a few dollars more. I buy mine by the 5 gallon bucket bigger savings.

I bought my JD 717A Z-trak last May. In late December, I went to change the hydro oil and filter. After reading the manual, I discovered the manual suggests a JD oil that does not exist. I can't remember the details now, but the weight of the oil was not available in the kind of oil suggested. There was a thread on this topic, probably in December 2006 or January 2007.

After discussing with the dealer, I used Amsoil 15-40 to replace the fluid that came with the new machine. After two months of use this season, all seems to be well. I bought the Amsoil at a NAPA parts store.
